Milk Thistle Improves Liver Function

Very rarely do we read in medical journals about a substance that is capable of cellular regeneration. Chemical constituents found in the common milk thistle Silybum marianum; namely silymarin and silibinin have been shown to repair cellular damaged liver cells. EuroMed cultivates and harvests milk thistle controlled under Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) certification. In order to provide a consistent level of silymarin natural isomers, a particular chemotype of Silybum marianum L. Gaertner seed is selected. The seeds are analyzed by HPTLC for proper species identity and for the presence of important compounds silibinin, silidianin, silichristin, caffeic acid and taxifolin.

The finished product is tested for six major constituents by HPLC including silibinin A and B, isosilibinin A and B, silichristin and silidianin.

To enhance effect, a second milk thistle extract is added. Siliphos® is manufactured by Indena, another European botanical extractor with impeccable reputation. Siliphos® is a patented process whereby milk thistle is molecularly bound to soy phospholipids that dramatically improves the uptake of silibinin into the liver. This results in a marked preventive action as observed in several models of liver intoxication including those with a strong involvement of oxidative stress. Siliphos® contains 33% of silibin.
